August 7 of 2004, in search of some ocean beaches with real surf--as opposed to the placid waters of Puget Sound)--we set off through Port Angeles and by ferry to Victoria for Ucluelet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, staying at the new and quite splendid Reef Point B&B. Here's the view from our room out to a small inlet to the ocean beyond. Whales sometimes swim by (we didn't see any, though), and eagles perch on the trees outside (we saw one of those).
