Historical NoteReturn to Top

The United States Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a federal agency, first created as an emergency employment measure in 1933 (Emergency Conservation Work), becoming an independent agency in 1937, and active until it was abolished in 1943. It provided employment and vocational training primarily for unemployed youths, but also for war veterans and Indians. CCC projects included construction, conservation, natural resources development, forest protection, and defense work on military reservations.
